Kefalonia is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea known for its chasms. It is the largest and most mountainous of the Ionian Islands. The main cities are Argostoli, the capital, Lixouri in the peninsula of Paliki, and Sami. More than a third of the inhabitants of the island are in Argostoli. The island has remarkable natural formations, you can find katavothres also known as sea mills (holes that swallow sea water), the cave of Melissani and Drogarati cave. Its highest point is Ainos Mount (1628 meters) with its national park created to protect the pine of Kefalonia. Unfortunately it is an earthquake zone. The island remained mostly wild and that’s what today it brings a tourist who appreciates this kind of condition that does not exist elsewhere. The island had a significant emigration and many of its inhabitants have gone to the United States, Canada or Australia. To visit: St. George fortress, the ruins of the fortress of Assos, the remains of St Mark’s Church, the underground lake Melissani, the caves of katavothres, the museum and the library of Korgialenios, the remains of the Roman city in Skala, St. Gerasimos monastery; among others.

Tips

There is a cave 4 km southwest of Sami that descends to a depth of 95 meters and it s upper limit is 60 meters under sea level. If your visit is especially in summer, find out because it is possible to attend concerts because of the very good acoustic sound. Its temperature is constant at 18 ° C with a humidity of 90%, so it would be convenient to bring a jacket or a sweater long sleeves.

Bonaire, Lesser Antilles

Bonaire is an island part of the Leeward Islands group in the Lesser Antilles, located east of Curaçao off the coast of Venezuela. The island is divided between the Windward coast in the east and the Leeward coast in the west. There are just two cities; Kralendijk, its capital and Rincon but there are other agglomerations or neighborhoods dependent on them. Since 2010 is a Dutch municipality with special status. One of the main activities of the island is tourism as it is a stopover for some cruise lines. The island is very popular for scuba diving enthusiasts as a coral reef surrounds the island. You can visit the Washington National Slagbaai Park, well known for the presence of flamingos and wild donkeys; Fort Orange and all the beautiful beaches you will find everywhere. Many activities are available on the island such as climbing, cycling, scuba diving, horse riding, golf, etc.

Tips

If you visit the Washington Slagbaai National Park, you will have the opportunity to know Boca Slagbaai Beach, a good place for snorkelers. Bring protective shoes to walk on the beach and to enter the sea.

If you are traveling with children, visit Cai Beach or Chachacha Beach; ideal for swimming and also good places for picnics.

If you want a beach with all the comforts, you can visit Eden Beach which belongs to the resort of the same name. You will have access to comfort by paying an accessible fee.

Gold Rock Beach, Bahamas

Gold Rock Beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, is part of The Lucayan National Park and is protected by the Bahamas National Trust. It’s about 25 miles from Freeport. It is a secluded beach with fine sand and crystal water. It’s said the beach has its name because the shore looks golden in the rising and setting sun. When the tide is low, the shoreline of the beach spans for meters into the sea. There are BBQ pits, picnic tables and benches there, but no other amenities. The services are in the parking area. You can also snorkel or take a tour to make a kayak excursion. You can find the Lucayan Caverns, the world’s longest surveyed underground cave system, on the North of the beach. You must pay a fee to enter the park and you can park in a small gravel area and you will have to cross the street and take the left path to arrive to the beach (about 5 minutes walk).

Tips

You can go there on a jeep excursion, by taxi or you can rent a car. Remember they drive on the left. You must take Grand Bahama Highway East. It’ll take about 45 minutes from the city or about an hour from the cruise pier.

You must take everything you want with you snacks, drinks, chairs, etc. Remember there’s nothing on the beach but if you are lucky, you can sometimes find somebody selling drinks at the entrance of the park.
