Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas

Great Stirrup Cay is a 250-acre private island in the Bahamas that belongs to the Norwegian Cruise Line cruises and is completely reserved for their passengers who will join the shore on a small boat. You can disembark at the time of the day suitable for you and return to the ship whenever you want, the boat service is constant. The island has beautiful white sand beaches with an infrastructure dedicated to cruise passengers who make a stopover in this little paradise. You have plenty of sunbeds distributed everywhere so no need to worry about finding one and if you prefer, there is a paying section where you can rent a kind of tent with 2 sunbeds to protect you a little from the sun and to have more privacy. You will find some restaurants (with hot or cold dishes) and bars; tacos, burgers, pizza, fresh fruit and more. Several activities are as possible as excursions. There are kiosks that sell crafts and souvenirs and prices are in US dollars. Another section with a lagoon will be inaugurated very soon. You will have the opportunity to rent a villa or studio for the day.

Tips

Bring your beach towel, sunscreen, sunglasses and your boat access card even a little money if you want to buy souvenirs.

Regarding the drink package, you keep your package on land valid in all bars.

If possible, book your excursions before boarding to make sure you have your place.

Bonaire, Lesser Antilles

Bonaire is an island part of the Leeward Islands group in the Lesser Antilles, located east of Curaçao off the coast of Venezuela. The island is divided between the Windward coast in the east and the Leeward coast in the west. There are just two cities; Kralendijk, its capital and Rincon but there are other agglomerations or neighborhoods dependent on them. Since 2010 is a Dutch municipality with special status. One of the main activities of the island is tourism as it is a stopover for some cruise lines. The island is very popular for scuba diving enthusiasts as a coral reef surrounds the island. You can visit the Washington National Slagbaai Park, well known for the presence of flamingos and wild donkeys; Fort Orange and all the beautiful beaches you will find everywhere. Many activities are available on the island such as climbing, cycling, scuba diving, horse riding, golf, etc.

Tips

If you visit the Washington Slagbaai National Park, you will have the opportunity to know Boca Slagbaai Beach, a good place for snorkelers. Bring protective shoes to walk on the beach and to enter the sea.

If you are traveling with children, visit Cai Beach or Chachacha Beach; ideal for swimming and also good places for picnics.

If you want a beach with all the comforts, you can visit Eden Beach which belongs to the resort of the same name. You will have access to comfort by paying an accessible fee.

Gold Rock Beach, Bahamas

Gold Rock Beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, is part of The Lucayan National Park and is protected by the Bahamas National Trust. It’s about 25 miles from Freeport. It is a secluded beach with fine sand and crystal water. It’s said the beach has its name because the shore looks golden in the rising and setting sun. When the tide is low, the shoreline of the beach spans for meters into the sea. There are BBQ pits, picnic tables and benches there, but no other amenities. The services are in the parking area. You can also snorkel or take a tour to make a kayak excursion. You can find the Lucayan Caverns, the world’s longest surveyed underground cave system, on the North of the beach. You must pay a fee to enter the park and you can park in a small gravel area and you will have to cross the street and take the left path to arrive to the beach (about 5 minutes walk).

Tips

You can go there on a jeep excursion, by taxi or you can rent a car. Remember they drive on the left. You must take Grand Bahama Highway East. It’ll take about 45 minutes from the city or about an hour from the cruise pier.

You must take everything you want with you snacks, drinks, chairs, etc. Remember there’s nothing on the beach but if you are lucky, you can sometimes find somebody selling drinks at the entrance of the park.
