Tofino is a small municipality located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, on the west coast of Canada. It is located on a peninsula in Clayoquot Sound, 317 km from Victoria. The place is well known to surfers who like to visit their sandy beaches, equipped all year round with facilities for surfing. The best known beaches are Long Beach (part of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve), Cox Bay, and Chesterman Beach. The place is surrounded by humid temperate forests and wild natural landscapes. Tourism constitutes the economic base of the municipality. Not to be missed: the Botanical Garden with typical species of the ‘rain forest’ and the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve which stretches along the coast of the island to protect marine flora and fauna.

Tips

If you want to see gray whales, orcas, and other marine life, you can take a zodiac excursion from Tofino. In March, the Pacific Rim Whale Festival is held to observe migrating whales.

If you like surfing, the world famous surfing competition Rip Curl Pro Nationals takes place in April.

If you are a market lover, enjoy the local market every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the summer season (it closes in October).
