Limassol is a town on Akrotiri Bay, in the island of Cyprus (located in the eastern Mediterranean). It is the 2nd largest city on the island and it receives a lot of tourism. It is also a fairly important transit trade port and several cruise lines also call there. You will find several archaeological sites and very interesting museums to visit. Since the Turkish occupation in northern Cyprus, Limassol has grown due to the arrival of refugees.
Tips
If you like history, visit the Medieval Castle (currently medieval museum). There you will find objects that range from the period of the 400s to the 1870s.
If nature is what you like, visit the public garden (on the coastal road) where there is a great variety of trees and a small zoo with the natural history museum.
If you are there in September you will find the Wine Festival where you could obviously taste the best wines of Cyprus for free.
One of the traditional festivals of the city is the Carnival which lasts 10 days.
Limassol is a great place to buy your travel souvenirs, especially embroidered tablecloths and fabrics. Everything is cheap and the more you buy, the better price you get.
