Cozumel, Mexico

Cozumel is a Mexican island located in the Caribbean Sea about twenty kilometers from the mainland (Playa del Carmen) and about 60 km from Cancun. It is accessible by ferry. The island is 48 km (from north to south) by 16 km (from east to west) and most of it is uninhabited and covered with dense vegetation. Most of its inhabitants are in the city of San Miguel de Cozumel. It was Jacques Cousteau who made the place known especially through his films of the 60s that showed the important coral reef. With its crystal clear waters, the island is well known for scuba diving and many cruise ships make a stopover for it. There are several Mayan ruins being those of San Gervasio the most important. The beaches are not so famous because most are wild. The place has a nice temperature all year round and the waters are nice too all the time.

Tips

If you do not practice scuba diving, you can enjoy an excursion with the Atlantis submarine; it’s a little expensive but it’s worth it.

If you like museums, visit the downtown one, to learn about the history and culture of the place.

You can also visit the Faro Celerain ecological reserve of Punta Sur where you will find guides that will show you the mangroves, the lagoons, the reefs and the coastal dunes. This is a good opportunity to observe wildlife too. There is the possibility to climb to the top of the lighthouse.

Gdansk, Poland

Gdansk is a port city located on the Baltic Sea, in Poland. It is considered the second largest city in the country after Krakow. The city has been inhabited by several different European cultures and the result is seen in the architectural and cultural heritage that are present. There are Gothic, Renaissance, Mannerist and Baroque buildings. You will find several museums and theaters and also many shops selling amber items. To see: the Basilica of St. Mary (Gothic Baltic brick); the statue of Neptune; the Door of Gold; the National Museum; the City Hall; the astronomical clock; the Cathedral of Oliwa; the Historical Museum; the Museum of the Second World War; among others.

Tips

If you visit the city in summer, you can also enjoy the beach, appreciated by many European tourists. You will also find tourist transport that connects Danzig to Sopot and Hel with a sort of water tram; there are three different lines.

Walking around the old town is a must; there are many cafes and restaurants that are well worth a break. The street Dluga, pedestrian street, is worth the visit during the day as in the evening.

If you want to visit Sweden from Gdansk, you will find ferries departing from the new port of the city.

Sandbanks Provincial Park, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada

Sandbanks Provincial Park is a park just 4 hours from Montreal and 3 hours from Toronto, located in Prince Edward County, Ontario. The Sandbanks dunes are 25 meters jutting into Lake Ontario at the jetty of the St. Lawrence River. Saffron sand, disorient you and the experience is full of wealth of local products of Prince Edward County. Sandbanks is a favorite provincial park for campers for its sandy hills teeming with plants and beautiful landscape. The white mobile sand dunes are among the biggest barrier beaches on the planet. You have three beautiful beaches, swimming marries water sports. This is a popular habitat by the “lizards” humans as by many species, which makes it all the more attractive park. Here you will find hiking trails that allow you to experience the dune and wetland habitats of the park.

Tips

Outlet Beach is perfect for families, with its shallow waters and gently sloping shore.
In spring and autumn, this park is ideal for seeing migrating birds.
In summer there is a daily interpretive program for the whole family.
Prince Edward County is known for having a lot of tracks for cycling.
