Love Park, Miraflores, Lima, Peru

Love Park is located in Miraflores in Lima Province, Peru. It was opened on February 14th, 1993 on St. Valentine’s day. There is a sculpture dedicated to love called The kiss by the Peruvian artist Victor Delfin. They are two young lovers who are kissing. It has 12 metres long and 3 metres high. The Park is located beside the bridge Villena Rey, a place where couples in love going to see the sunset, a magnificent view over the Pacific Ocean. There are also traditions such as for example, couples of just married who go after the ceremony to concretize their act with a kiss. Of course, on February 14th (St. Valentin’s day), couples fill the Park and there’s a competition among them called ‘The longest kiss’. The Park is bounded by a wavy wall where you can see Peruvian poets’ romantic phrases such as: ‘ I undress you as I peel a fruit ‘ by Jorge Díaz Herrera’ or ‘My dream is a lost island’ by Alberto Vega or ‘Poetry can change poison into sweet’ by Abelardo Oquendo among others.

Tips

If you like to plan in parachute, next to Love Park, you will find Raimondi Park , where you can launch from.
The area where the Park is located is a succession of docks excellent to jog or just cycle. There is also a lighthouse at the end of the road.
If you like shopping, you will find the Larcomar Mall with many restaurants and shops of famous brands not far from the park.
Of course, if you like the beach, it is a good place to enjoy it. The sea complete the beautiful landscape.

President Venceslau’s observation tower, President Venceslau, San Paulo, Brazil

President Venceslau’s observation tower has the Dutch style. But, in fact, it was the work of a Portuguese engineer Álvaro Coelho built in 1927 with four brick floors and wooden roof, with a structure reinforced with concrete base and the railway rails- exactly slabs beams are made of train tracks!

Coelho came to Brazil to sell land through a company he owned. Arrived at the Paulista West which was not yet President Venceslau where there were some explorers and many indians; he bought a large farm, built a luxurious site and this such observation tower from where he could see the horizon of his land and prevent the possible invasions of indians and “competitors” in the business.

For a long time, although useful in the safety of the earth, the observation tower of the highly innovative standards architecture for Brazilian structures at that time, even more for this corner of the State, served as a decoration, the site of the farm, which also became known as the Palace of Álvaro Coelho at the reception of the large dinners of high society, being visited by Brazilian politicians and even abroad, for example a Hungarian Minister visited it.

Álvaro Coelho became the first mayor, who then created the first municipality that President Venceslau had. Thus, the village grew. He sold the land and the farm was reduced. But the tower continued to attract curious eyes of residents and visitors.

Tips

The site is free and of an unrestricted access, the same for photos but as this is a hot country region, you will need solar filters, protectors against insects and water for hydration.

Papudo, Petorca, Chile

Papudo is a Chilean commune in the province of Petorca, 175 km from Santiago and 98 km north of Valparaiso. Its main town is the resort of the same name, which has 2 beaches for swimming, Big Beach and Little Beach, and other more distant like Lilen, Playillas and Salinas Puyally. There are also several trails for hiking or horseback riding and to observe the flora and fauna, like the French way, the Maqui and the Tigris way. The site offers many activities also that enjoy the beach and sun, you can go hiking, horseback riding, do underwater expeditions, surfing, mountain biking, etc. There is a beautiful pedestrian promenade along the beach called The Terrace from the grotto of the Virgin to Glorias Navales Avenue. Sto see: Recart Chalet, the church of Our Lady of Mercy, the temple of St. Peter the Fisherman, the Pirate Cave, Pullaly Park, among others.

Tips

A nice excursion to do is go around the bay by boat, about 40 minutes that covers places of major tourist attraction, such as Punta Pite and the Island of Wolves, where you can see marine life in all its splendor, with important colonies of Humboldt penguins, cormorants, pelicans, etc. The boats sail from the municipal wharf and tickets can be purchased at the tourist information office at Little Beach and on the pier.
There are two craft fairs where villagers offer their crafts, one located on the promenade of Big Beach and the other on the Arms Suqare.
If you like fish and seafood, Papudo is a good place to eat very fresh one in the various restaurants in the area.
If you’re visiting in February, you will be able to attend the Festival of integration which brings together hundreds of exhibitors from Latin America.
