Cerro San Cristóbal, Santiago, Chile

The Cerro San Cristóbal is a hill located in Santiago, the capital of Chile. It is the second highest point of the city, 880 metres and is located between the municipalities of Providencia and Recoleta, at their feet we found the district of Bellavista. It is part of a set of mountains, alongside Chacarillas, the Twins and the Pyramid forming the Santiago metropolitan park, the largest in Chile and one of the largest urban parks in the world (722 hectares). It owes its name to the patron saint of travelers, San Cristóbal de Licia. During the colonial era, its stones were used for the construction and to pave the streets of Santiago. At the top of the hill, there is the shrine of the Immaculate Conception with its great statue, considered a symbol of Santiago. In 1925 the funicular and Zoo have been built. John Paul II celebrated a mass in 1987 at the amphitheatre that sits at the top. Broadcasters TV antennas are installed there too. It is possible to go up by car or cable car.

Tips

If you like walking or riding a bike, you can climb the hill in a more sporty way. The view that you will have of the city and the Andes mountains worth the effort.
Don’t forget to bring your camera, it is the ideal place to make panoramic photos.
In addition to visiting the Zoo or sanctuary, there are also two swimming pools for hot days.

Ko Lanta, Krabi, Thailand

Ko Lanta is an island of the Andaman Coast of Southern Thailand, in the province of Krabi, known for its diving and long white beaches. It’s about 70km from Krabi Town. It’s 6 km wide and over 30 kms long, 9 beaches lie from north to south along the sunset coast, its coastlines have more than 70 small islands and plenty of forest, coral reefs and under water life. Popular with tourists seeking a holiday away from the parties, its beaches are never full. A paved road runs along the beaches from the northern part of the island almost all the way to the southern tip. The last 8 kilometers leading to the headquarters of the Mu Ko Lanta National Park in the south are quite hilly. The landscape is dominated by a series of mountains covered with virgin rainforest. From January to April is the hot season and from May to December is the rainy one. The sea stays at a warm 29°C all year round. The nearest airports are Phuket, Krabi and Trang. Ko Lanta does not have roads connecting it directly to the mainland, but is served by car ferries.

Tips

The best time to visit Ko Lanta is between the months November to April when the area’s climate is less hot than usual.
You can easily arrive from Krabi or Trang because of a direct road and boat connections. You also have
an express transfer which is a combination of minivan and speedboat travel from Krabi or Phuket Airport.
Private companies on the island operate boat services to many destinations. Tickets can be booked in advance online.
You can also hire a motorbike to visit the island.

Menton, Alpes-Maritimes, French-Italian border, France

Menton is a French commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department, located on the French-Italian border, close to the Principality of Monaco, and a famous tourist resort on the French Riviera. The border town on the Italian side is Ventimiglia. Lemon is one of the symbols of the city, thanks to its Mediterranean climate citrus trees bear fruit. Since 1928 the lemon fesival held every year in February. Known for its old town with its narrow streets and colorful facades and its stunning monument, the Basilica St Michel and Long Street with its art workshops. To see: the City hotel, the casino with Bioves garden (located on a large driveway where the Lemon Festival takes place every year), the St. Paul Garavan area with beautiful properties and magnificent gardens that surround them, Carnolès Palace (former home of Antoine 1er de Monaco) today Museum of Fine Arts and which garden is home to the main collection of citrus in France; the Pian (sloping garden with just olive trees like planting), Bastion located in the port that received the Jean Cocteau Museum, the Palace of Europe, the Riviera (ex-hotel), the villa Tempe à Pailla, the Monastery of Annunciation, among others. His most famous beaches are: Sablettes, Rondelli and Hawaii.

Tips

Menton is an ideal city for holidays throughout the year thanks to its Mediterranean climate. You will find accommodation for all tastes and budgets even that many restaurants and shops.
If you want to know the area, you can rent a car or motorcycle or just use public transport. You can take the train or a bus that takes you to Nice or Monaco.
