Anagni, Frosinone, Lazio, Italy

Anagni is a town in the province of Frosinone, Lazio, known as the city of the Popes, for being the birthplace of four Popes and for a long time, it was the papal residence and headquarters. It is located on a hill in the Sacco Valley in Ciociaria, 72 km from the center of Rome. The city has a medieval old town with elegant and austere attractive buildings, Romanesque churches, steeples, loggias with a sober and essential architecture.
To see: the Palace of Boniface VIII, the town hall, the cathedral, the house Barnekow and numerous churches and gateways of the old town. In the cathedral we find the crypt whose frescoes are one of the most interesting pictorial cycles of the thirteenth Italian century. Today the city is the largest industrial center of southern Lazio and one of the largest in central Italy.

Tips

You can attend several events by the month of your visit. The Palio of Anagni in August with the typical parade in medieval costumes. In August and September there is the Medieval Renaissance Theatre Festival.
In spring and autumn you’ll find the concert season.
Once a month there is an antique and nature market.
