The Massachusetts Institute of Technology or MIT is a research institute and a university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, near Boston; specializing in the fields of science and technology, regarded as one of world’s best universities in science and technology. It is also known in other fields such as economics, political science, linguistics, philosophy and management; the most important is engineering with 2,000 students; with all its online courses on the Internet since 2002. It is interesting that students participate in scientific and technological research in their first year of study. 78 Nobel Prize winners have emerged from its ranks. Besides its faculties, there are the Lincoln Laboratory, the laboratory of artificial intelligence and computer science, the Nuclear lab, the media lab, being the most important among others.

Tips

The campus is open for visits by the general public from Monday to Friday, there are guided tours at 11:00 and 15:00. You can also visit guiding you with a map that you can find in the lobby.
You can attend various events that the Institute organizes, to know more, you have to go to their website and you will find all the information with the ticket prices. There are also several ones that are free.

Kahnawake, Montérégie, Quebec, Canada

Kahnawake is a Mohawk Indian reservation (one of the six Iroquois nations) in Quebec, located in the administrative region of Montérégie. Its population is about 8000 individuals with approximately 6,500 living on the reservation and it was established in 1667. He assumed his current position since 1716. The term Sault-Saint-Louis distinguishes Kahnawake from other Amerindian villages of Lower Canada including St. Regis (Akwesasne) Deux-Montagnes (Oka-Kanesatake), the Abenaki village of St. Francis and the Wendat-Huron village of Lorette but the term Sault-Saint-Louis is not really used today except in the context of land claims. Since 1760, the Kahnawake Iroquois claim a portion of their territory, the lordship of Sault St. Louis, which was annexed to the neighboring lordship of La Prairie de la Madeleine. Today, they have only 11,000 acres of the original 40,000 acres.

Tips

When visiting the reserve, go to the tourist office next to the main St. Kateri Shrine where you can get all the necessary information for a good visit. They will give you a free map and a tourist booklet too.
You can of course visit shops selling regional products even as have a meal in a local restaurant.

 

La P’tite cabane d’la côte, Mirabel, Quebec, Canada

La P’tite cabane d’la côte is a sugar shack and maple grove located in Mirabel (40 minutes from Montreal). It operates only on reservation especially with groups. It is also possible to visit it with schools and there are different activities for all ages. There are old-fashioned facilities (boilers and torches), maple water picking, sleigh rides and other activities for groups. The meal is abundant and of a very good quality and there is a large room where you will find musicians playing Quebec music on Friday and Saturday nights. You will also find a kiosk where you can buy their products. For the little ones there is a mini-farm.

Tips

You can bring your drink.

There is a promotion with very attractive prices for each child accompanied by an adult from Monday to Thursday evening.
