Old building of the Stock Exchange, Trieste, Italy

Located a few hundred meters from Piazza Unità, the old building of the Stock Exchange was opened in 1806 on a design by architect Antonio Mollari. The building resembles a Greek temple with Doric columns, with metopes and triglyphs that support the triangular pediment decorated with a clock flanked by the figures of the Fortune and the Glory. The palace has many statues on the facade, on the ground floor there are America, Europe, Asia and Africa, on the main floor Vulcan and Mercury, and they are all the work of Banti and Ferrari. The statues of the Danube, Minerva and Neptune are over the railing and belong to the work of the artist Bosa. In the decorationthere is also a scene painted by Giuseppe Bernardino Bison dedicated to the proclamation in Porto Franco of Trieste by Charles VI; this work is in the Major room, in the center of the dome-shaped ceiling. On the ground floor there is a beautiful sundial dated 1820 by the Friuli Sebastianutti. The palace was the seat of the Stock Exchange, but in 1844, the stock market was moved to the palace which is nearby, the Tergesteo. Currently, the building houses the Chamber of Commerce.

Tips

The building is within walking distance of all the monuments of historic Trieste.
You can take all the photos you want on the outside of the building, but the place does not accept tourist’s visit. Admission is only possible if you need somehting from the office of the Chamber of Commerce.

Pipa, Tibau do Sul, Rio Grande of North, Brazil

Pipa is a well-known beach, 85 km south of Natal, in the municipality of Tibau do Sul; State of Rio Grande of North in Brazil. It has this name because when the Portuguese went by boat, they saw a rock in the shape of a barrel of wine and that is precisely what the name Pipa means in Portuguese. First it was a small fishing village but once the surfers discovered it, the place became known everywhere. From the town of Tibau do Sul, you can meet a series of beaches and Pipa is one of them. Another well-known beach is the Beach of Love, very popular with tourists and surfers as well. You will find hostels, hotels, restaurants, bars and shops open all year round. There is also a sea turtle preservation area not too far from the village.

Tips

If you want to practice kite-surfing, you will find a better place between Pipa and Tibau.

If you like the night, the village is also known for having a quite active nightlife.

 

Lemon festival, Menton, Côte d’Azur, France

The Lemon Festival is a traditional festive event organized by the tourist office, which takes place every year at the end of winter in the city of Menton. City known to be a major European producer of lemon since the mid-fifteenth century. It was still the largest producer of lemon on the continent when in 1928, a hotelier had the idea to organize a private exhibition of citrus and flowers in the gardens of the Riviera hotel with such success that the following year, the municipality adopted it. This festival is interspersed with carnival, carts of shrubs with oranges and lemons parade with the charming women of the city. In 1934, the theme of the carnival was citrus fruit, and so the term “Lemon Festival” was born. Citrus fruits are set in structured wire garlands. More than a hundred people are involved in the preparation for two weeks. At the end of the event, the fruits, of which 90% are in good condition, are sold at low prices. The only years the event did not occur were during the wars. The parade of citrus floats is mixed with confetti, fanfares, dancers and folk groups on the Promenade du Soleil. Each year, a different theme is chosen. It is considered the second most important event of the Côte d’Azur after the carnival of Nice.

Tips

It is advisable to make the reservation for your stay sufficiently in advance.

The whole city is in celebration and if you want to enjoy it, there are restaurants and bars on the Promenade du Soleil, where you can book your seat and enjoy the parade while drinking something.

You can see the parades of groups and other street performers who will parade around the citrus cars.

Do not miss the evening because with the lights, you will be doubly surprised.
