Cayo Largo, Cuba

Cayo Largo is an island in the Antilles, cuban island, located in the extreme east of the Canarreos Archipelago. This small limestone island is 177km south from La Havana. It is also known as Cayo Largo del Sur and has 28 km long by more or less 3 km wide in its widest part. Tourists are attracted by its beaches of exceptional beauty and scuba diving sites. The beaches are almost all concentrated in the southern part of the island while there are only swamps and mangroves in the north. There is no inhabitant standing on the island. Local workers work mainly in hotels for a period of 20 consecutive days before returning home on another island (mainly on La Juventud Island) for a 10-day break. In November 2001, the island was entirely submerged by storm associated with Hurricane Michelle.

Tips

The all inclusive formula lets you enjoy several activities such as kayaking, equipment for apnea, pedalo, the scuba diving in the pool, etc. Of course there are also other activities that you need to pay. The nautical club of the hotels is Sirena Beach and the hotels include the transport to get there.
Some hotels also offer the use of a bike one hour a day, others have a net of volleyball on their beaches, others have free tennis courts for one hour per day.
Activities such as courses of basic Spanish and Latin dance are also possible.

Club Med Columbus Isle, San Salvador Island, Bahamas

Club Med Columbus Isle is located in the Bahamas on the island of San Salvador, with blond sand and turquoise waters of the Caribbean. The resort has 216 rooms in one-storey bungalows with colorful colonial architecture. There are two restaurants with sea views, the Christopher’s has a terrace for smokers and the Pinta Beach Lounge is open since 2017 and offers snacks throughout the day. There is also the swimming pool and the theater. The village welcomes families with children from 2 years old but the Junior Club Med has activities only for children and teenagers between 11 and 17 years old during the months of July and August only. There are several activities on site such as table tennis, sailing, beach volleyball, kayak, weight room, spa, etc.

Tips

The drinks package that is included in your stay, includes drinks by the glass and at the bar only: water, fruit juice, soda, hot drinks, cocktails with or without alcohol, branded alcoholic drinks local and / or international and wines. If you want champagne, cans, wines à la carte or some premium brands, you will have to pay them.

You can also enjoy to make some visits outside the village; for example, to see the statue of Christoph Columbus (who discovered this island) and the plaque that commemorates the 500 years of his discovery with a replica of the Santa Maria (name of the ship).

Cozumel, Mexico

Cozumel is a Mexican island located in the Caribbean Sea about twenty kilometers from the mainland (Playa del Carmen) and about 60 km from Cancun. It is accessible by ferry. The island is 48 km (from north to south) by 16 km (from east to west) and most of it is uninhabited and covered with dense vegetation. Most of its inhabitants are in the city of San Miguel de Cozumel. It was Jacques Cousteau who made the place known especially through his films of the 60s that showed the important coral reef. With its crystal clear waters, the island is well known for scuba diving and many cruise ships make a stopover for it. There are several Mayan ruins being those of San Gervasio the most important. The beaches are not so famous because most are wild. The place has a nice temperature all year round and the waters are nice too all the time.

Tips

If you do not practice scuba diving, you can enjoy an excursion with the Atlantis submarine; it’s a little expensive but it’s worth it.

If you like museums, visit the downtown one, to learn about the history and culture of the place.

You can also visit the Faro Celerain ecological reserve of Punta Sur where you will find guides that will show you the mangroves, the lagoons, the reefs and the coastal dunes. This is a good opportunity to observe wildlife too. There is the possibility to climb to the top of the lighthouse.
